Indigenous Relations and Communities

Respecting Indigenous People.

Our relationships with Indigenous People and communities are integral to our success

At SQMi, we acknowledge the Indigenous People of the lands where we operate. We recognise their enduring connection to Country—land, waters, cultures, and communities—and their rights to participate meaningfully in decisions that may affect their environment and heritage.

We are committed to respecting the rights of Indigenous People and fostering relationships built on trust, transparency, and cultural understanding.

Our approach is guided by the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People, and we strive to achieve free, prior and informed consent for our activities.

We believe that respectful, ongoing engagement is essential to addressing concerns and working together to deliver shared value.

Cultural Heritage Management

We apply industry best practice to identify, protect, and manage cultural heritage in consultation with affected Indigenous People. Our approach follows a mitigation hierarchy—avoid, minimise, restore—to safeguard significant heritage values.

Building Cultural Awareness

We foster a culture of respect within our teams by promoting awareness of Indigenous histories and cultures. This includes ongoing training and celebrating key events such as Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week in Australia.

Creating Shared Value

Our operations aim to deliver tangible benefits to Indigenous communities through employment, procurement, education, and other opportunities identified through engagement with stakeholders.
