Management Team
Mark holds a degree in Industrial Engineering and an MBA from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He joined SQM in 2003, advancing to Vice President of Corporate Business Development & Planning in 2009, and then to Vice President of Corporate Finance in 2010.
In 2017, after gaining experience as CFO in various industries, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Covalent Lithium, based in Perth, where he led the development of the Mt Holland Lithium Project, a 50/50 joint venture between SQM and Wesfarmers Ltd. He served in this role until early 2020, when he returned to SQM as Vice President for Strategy and Mergers & Acquisitions for the Lithium business division.
Currently, Mark leads SQM’s international lithium endeavors as CEO of SQM International Lithium (SQMi).
Gonzalo is an Industrial Engineer with a degree from Universidad Católica de Córdoba. Stanford Ignite program graduate from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and holds a projects evaluation graduate certificate from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile. He also successfully completed the Company Directors Course at the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).
Gonzalo joined SQM in 2012 and has developed his career across different areas in SQM, including international projects development, business development, finance, procurement and management reporting . He started the operations of the SQM Australia office back in 2019 and oversaw the development of Mt Holland Lithium Project as a SQM representative until 2024.
As Country Manager – Australia- and People & Sustainability Vice President, Gonzalo leads shared services, including Sustainability, Health & Safety, People & Culture, Native Titles & Heritage, Corporate Affairs and IT, while overseeing local team integration and representing the company in Australia with key stakeholders.
Andrés is an Economist from Universidad de Chile and holds an MBA from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.
He joined SQM in 2004 as Strategic Marketing Manager and has since held a variety of leadership roles within the company. His international experience includes over four years at SQM’s European headquarters in Belgium and five years at the North American headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2019, he returned to Chile to serve as Commercial Vice President of Lithium for the Americas and EMEA regions.
From 2022 to 2024, he led SQM Lithium’s business development initiatives as Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions. Andrés currently serves as Commercial Vice President of SQM International Lithium. He is married, has two children, and lives in Santiago, Chile.
Hernán is a Bachelor in Business Administration from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and holds an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management.
He started his career in investment banking, performing M&A, equity and debt transactions. After his MBA, he served in finance and business development roles. At SQM, he has focused on M&A, recently leading the negotiation and execution deal with Codelco to extend SQM’s lithium operation in Salar de Atacama until 2060.
Currently, Hernán oversees business strategy, intelligence, and development as Business Development Vice President of SQM International Lithium.
Mauricio is an Industrial Engineer from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile; Organizational Coach from the Universidad de Barcelona; Business Administration from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and Managing Complex Product Development from MIT Soan School of Management.
He has more than 25 years of experience working in SQM and related entities in the areas of Operations and Projects, has implemented greenfield and brownfield projects, increasing capacities, upgrades, debottlenecking. Mauricio has experience in commissioning, operational readiness and ramp up. Background in R&D scoping new technologies, pilots testing, conceptual design and implementation.
Currently, Mauricio leads the Projects and Operations area of SQMi’s productive portfolio. He supports and monitors the performance of the JVs, participating in technical committees and ensuring that the operation or project standards align with SQM’s standards.
Ángeles is a Forestry Engineer from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, holds a Master’s degree in Finance and a Diploma in Venture Capital from Adolfo Ibáñez University and specializations in leadership, entrepreneurship, and financing from Stanford University, Harvard Business School, and Columbia Business School.
A four-time winner of El Mercurio’s Women of Leadership award, Ángeles has over 20 years of experience in strategic consulting, incubation, business acceleration, business angels, venture capital, and corporate venture capital in the public and private sectors in Chile and New Zealand. She served as Manager of Start-Up Chile, Corporate Manager of CORFO, and Executive Director of Endeavor in Chile. She is a company director and teaches in the MBA program and the Master’s in Innovation at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
As Lithium Ventures Director, Ángeles leads the corporate venture capital fund of SQM. Launched in December 2022 with a commitment of up to USD 40 million, the fund aims to drive innovation across the full spectrum of the lithium lifecycle.
Nick Vickery is a mining executive with almost 20 years’ experience working in the resources industry, with over seven of those in lithium, specialising in corporate governance and the development of major resource projects.
Nick holds a Bachelor in Economics, a Bachelor of Laws and a Masters of Commercial and Resources Law from the University of Western Australia. He has also successfully completed the Company Directors Course at the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and holds a Graduate Certificate in Applied Finance and Investment from Kaplan (FINSIA) and a Professional Certificate in ESG and Social Responsibility from the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM).
Nick is the Head of Legal and Compliance for SQM Australia and is responsible for all legal and compliance matters within the company. He has previously worked as CEO for ASX listed explorer Patriot Lithium Ltd, as well as General Manager Legal for Covalent Lithium, overseeing the legal, heritage, native title and corporate governance functions for the Mt Holland Lithium project from the preliminary study phases and into construction.
Álvaro holds a degree in Business Administration from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, an MBA from Emory University, and an ECFO (Strategic Financial Leadership Program) from Stanford University Graduate School of Business in the United States.
Álvaro has a long career in Finance and Administration area, including roles as CFO of WOM (Telco) and La Polar (retail), as well as Director of Finance at Farmacias Ahumada.
He also served over 11 years at SQM, in Administration and Finance areas in Chile and in the commercial offices of SQM International. He returned to the company in 2024 as CFO of SQM International (SQMi).
Andrés is a Geologist and MSc in Geology with 20 years of experience in project evaluation, exploration, geostatistics, resource estimation and reserve definition, risk assessment, and hydrogeology for different commodities (Li, K, Co, I, NO3, Cu, Au, REE), with broad experience on applied geology to engineering, geologic risk & hazards.
Andrés has taken part in multiple international greenfield and brownfield projects, culminating in six discoveries advancing to the production phase; with and strong commitment to teamwork, safety, and innovation.
Currently, Andrés leads the Exploration & Resources area at SQMi. The scope of his responsibilities include planning and directing the organization’s worldwide lithium exploration activities; continuous assessing of profitable opportunities for acquisition or development together with M&A team; participation in the negotiation of joint ventures and acquisitions; participation in the development of exploration property to production stage, for SQM standalone projects and JV projects; and consolidation of company exploration budgets.
Andrés is also the responsible (Competent Person) for the disclosure of the company’s lithium resources.
